There was chaos at the D-Line axis of Port Harcourt on Wednesday when gunmen shot a man identified as Mr. Tony Eze, a managing director of an oil service firm.
The armed men, who drove a Sport Utility Vehicle, also shot the driver of the vehicle and a policeman attached to Eze before they disappeared from the scene.
Our correspondent learnt that the unknown gunmen had trailed their victims to Agudama Road and opened fire on them inside their car, a Lexus SUV with registration number Lagos FK 968 EKY.
An eyewitness told The PUNCH that the traffic jam on the ever busy road made it possible for the hoodlums to hit their target and escaped.
It was not clear if the victims, who were rushed to the hospital after the incident, survived the gun shots.
“We heard the sound of their guns and everybody ran away. When they had left, we were told that three persons were shot. They were immediately taken to the hospital. We are not sure if they are alive,” an eyewitness said.
It was learnt that a taxi driver in the middle of the traffic jam was hit by a stray bullet and had also been rushed to the hospital.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed the incident, saying only two persons were shot.
Mohammad said the victims were still alive and receiving treatment at the hospital.
It was not known as of the time of this report where the victims were being treated.
